JUBILANT ELON AFTER THE SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH
By successfully launching its new Crew Dragon spacecraft with astronauts on board for the first time,SpaceX became the first private company to launch astronauts for NASA. The crewed test flight, called Demo-2, is also the first crewed launch from the United States since the space shuttle program ended in 2011. SpaceX and Boeing were both selected for NASA's commercial crew program to wean the agency off its dependence on Russia's Soyuz to fly astronauts after the shuttle program was retired.Â
SHORT TERM IMPLICATIONS:
SpaceX will now have the confidence as well as the goodwill to launch humans in space.Their mission, called Crew-1, could launch to the ISS as early as Aug. 30, with three NASA astronauts and one astronaut from the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency on board.Â
The space race between SpaceX (Elon Musk), Virgin Hyperloop (Richard Branson) and Blue Origin (Jeff Bezoz) is hotting up. SpaceX has a tangible lead in rocket launches whereas Virgin Hyperloop specializes in satellite.
The American dependence on Russia for launches is virtually over.
NASA now has the advantage of homegrown private companies which can assist its space exploration.
This will be the dawn of a new revolution in space exploration which can be compared to the emergence of various tech companies( INTEL, HP, APPLE, MICROSOFT) in the silicon valley in the 1960's. So there will be lots of innovation & evolution in this field.
LONG TERM IMPLICATIONS
The outer space is not finite. There is a possibility that it may be cluttered with various satellite and other objects leading to "space junk'.
SpaceX has an ambitious project called STARLINK which includes launching hundreds of small satellites in outer space to give internet access to the most remote corners of the world. However, this can lead to a future blueprint by which surveillance can also be done.

Space might as well be the new arena for nations to dominate There are no treaties as of yet which governs outer space so any advances cannot be stopped. As our world becomes more digitized, satellites will have a major rule to determine national strength. So this is similar to the arms race between European nations before WW2.
The field of astronomy which depends on accurate image and capture of lights can be heavily distorted.
Space will be the new home as our earth becomes increasingly polluted and its nature destroyed.
The long term goal of Musk to send humans to Mars seems more realistic now.
