INVESTING ON INNOVATION: THE DISRUPTIVE STOCK PICKER

ARK INVESTMENT HAS CAUGHT THE GLOBAL ATTENTION BY DELIVERING ASTRONOMICAL RETURNS & CREATING A NEXGEN INVESTING PHILOSOPHY. HERE'S HOW.

The elusive world of stock markets has seen many fund managers. Stanford graduates, Math wizards, Statistical geniuses, Cigar Butt hunters, Value Investors & Technical honchos. However, a new breed of futuristic "innovation" managers have taken the limelight recently. They have a simple thesis: Invest in sectors that are small today but will rule the economies of tomorrow. Sounds simple right?

Looks like there is a new Wolf of Wall Street! The leading proponent of these "disruptive" investors has been Ark Investment's Cathie Wood. It is interesting to note here that Wood has been mentored by none other than Arthur Laffer, an economist most famous for Laffer's Curve. Now let's understand the thought process behind Wood's investment mantra:

SECTORS TARGETED

Given below is the list of sectors Ark Investment has ventured in:

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Space Exploration

  • Cryptocurrency

  • Genome Science

  • Fintech

  • Autonomous Tech

  • Robotics

  • Mobility as a Service

  • 3D Printing

Sounds promising? Wait till you see the returns!

Just look at the crazy returns it earned in 2020 (1 year column) in the American Stock Market. Let me throw caution to the winds. Because right now, all the Ark ETFs are in the negative by over 20% (as of 19/05/2021). This just shows the extremely volatile nature of such risky investments.

However, to me personally, the investment mantra does make a bit of sense. The fact is that the bubbling technologies of today will be omnipresent parts of our life tomorrow. The question to be asked is will Ark be able to bet on the right companies? What do you think? Let me know!
