THE HEIR TO THE THRONE

JEFF BEZOZ HAS STEPPED DOWN. AND THE WORLD KNOWS LITTLE ABOUT THE NEW TOP DOG- ANDY JASSY, HERE ARE THE JUICY DETAILS.

Amazon has the habit of entering an industry, investing bucketloads of money into its subsidiary company, being a dominant player in the industry & then plundering the competition. For perspective,:

  • Twitch is a market leader in live gaming stream

  • Audible is a leader in audiobooks

  • Whole Foods has allowed Amazon to gain a foothold in grocery shopping in the US,

However, as avid readers of The Amazon Series would be aware, the company is not exactly profitable. E-commerce is money sapping business & you need substantial cash reserves to back up your aggressive moves. Enter; AWS

AWS or Amazon Web Services is literally the cash cow of the company. The bar graph below clearly spells out how Amazon without AWS would be a barely profitable venture.

Now to the current news: The main mastermind behind AWS's phenomenal rise has been none other than Any Jassy! Jining Amazon since its inception days of the 90s, Andy has seen it all at Amazon. More importantly, he was the one who envisioned & conceptualised AWS as a viable business opportunity. AWS does the business of maintaining data centres for Pfizer, Adobe, Spotify and Samsung. Today, AWS is a leading cloud computing player in the market leaving Microsoft Azure at the backseat despite its headstart and commands a dominant share of 32% which is expected to grow in the near future.

Interestingly, after Steve Ballmer's disasterclass at Microsoft, a cloud computing head Satya Nadela too was appointed as the CEO! Coincidence? Maybe, But this does throw some light on cloud computing's increasing importance in the tech world.

Righto, short one today. What do you think of this shorter/goofier style? DO LEMME KNOW. Also feel free to check out some dark stuff about Amazon on the link below:

Adios.
