THE PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN OF AMERICAN ELECTIONS HAS EXPOSED THE VAST EXPANSE BETWEEN THE VIEWS OF INCUMBENT DONALD TRUMP & CHALLENGER IN CHIEF JOE BIDEN. HERE'S HOW.
It's election time in the USA. The streets are abuzz (metaphorically), the debates are over & it's polling time! If America would have wished for two completely opposite candidates, its wishes couldn't have been fulfilled better! Biden & Trump seem to agree on only one thing: that they disagree on everything!
So let's take a look at how divergent their views are:
POLITICAL IDEAOLOGY
With the slogan of America First, Trump rose to power dramatically in 2016. He propagated a patriotic & right-wing nationalist vision of the world. Even during his tenure, he withdrew from international organizations and agreements which he thought were harmful to American interests including WHO, Paris Climate Deal & JCPOA (centered around Iran). On the other hand, Joe Biden is a strong believer in "International Liberalism" where he has faith in global mechanisms like WTO & NATO. He believes in reinstating American hegemony in these institutions & regain the confidence of his allies which was disrupted by Trump's regime.
FOREIGN POLICY
Both see the world through different prisms as well. Trump has promised an even tougher stance on China. Biden would like to see a lot of Russians held accountable. Trump will continue his peace process in the ever volatile Middle East whereas Biden would like to disengage from the region to a certain extent. Biden would like to reaffirm America's commitment towards its democratic allies (especially NATO) whereas Trump prefers an inward seeking isolationist foreign policy.
CLIMATE CHANGE
Something which many people (like Mr. Trump) don't care about, Climate Change is another topic where Trump & Biden don't see eye to eye. Trump has paid little heed to carbon emissions & sustainable development, even pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement. Biden on the other hand has promised big things. He has announced an ambitious $2 Trillion plan to combat climate change which runs for over four years to significantly escalate the use of clean energy in the transportation, electricity and building sectors.
TAXES
Biden has briefly talked about raising taxes for the elite & the ultra rich. He wants to increase their tax rate to around 39.6% also raising the capital gains tax on capital gains tax to the same level. Trump wants to decrease or stagnate tax rate on all levels irrespective of income earned at least till his tac cuts expire in 2022.
IMMIGRATION
Trump & Biden have the most polarizingly different immigration policies. Biden wants America to again be the beacon of hope for asylum seekers & the land of opportunity for immigrants. In his own words, he wants to "again humanize American immigration". Trump meanwhile has staunchly defended his often criticized immigration policy arguing it has been good for America.
