IF THERE IS ANY NATION WHICH HAS ALTERED HISTORY FOREVER, THEN IT IS NONE OTHER THAN PORTUGAL. HERE'S WHY.
Vasco da Gama. Christopher Colombus. Amato Lusitano. Cristiano Ronaldo.(pioneered the knuckle ball freekick!) These are some of the well known pioneers from the western most European nation. They have made new discoveries and completely revolutionised their respective fields. The Portuguese have excelled in art & literature, science, weaponry and above all navigation. The majority of this good work took pace in the Portuguese Renaissance( 15th Century)
FIELDS & DISCOVERIES:
1. SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.
One of the first doctors to have discovered the human circulatory system was Amato Lucitano. The vivid impact this discovery has had on human biology is insurmountable. Padre Himalaya (Portuguese saint) invented the solar oven in the 1890's. The Portuguese seem to have a fascination for the specially able. They have invented an electric cane, electric wheelchair, deaf-mute language and electrovision (tactile system for the blind to percieve images).
2.NAVIGATION.
Perhaps this is the most vital and well known contribution of the Portuguese. They were the first navigators and discovered various sea routes. They were the first nation to colonize the world. They found the much coveted route to India as well. They discovered Brazil & were the first nation to send diplomats to China & Japan. Without Portuguese Cartographers and sailors, much of the east would have been discovered later. ( now how much good or bad that is depends where you are from!)

3. ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT
Although not very well known, they also have contributed sporadically in this field. Some examples are musical instruments like ukulele, machete,& cavaquinho. Gothic and manueline architectural style were dominant in Portugal during its renaissance.
I admit that today's article was a bit historical but I wanted to mix things up a bit.Their contributions have not been prominent and well known so I wanted to highlight them.
